Ilford Delta 100 is the slow, precise member of Ilford's modern Delta line. It uses core-shell crystal technology, Ilford's answer to fine-grain emulsions, to deliver very fine grain and high resolution at ISO 100. It is the black-and-white film to reach for when detail and smoothness matter most.
Character and tones
Delta 100 renders a clean, refined black and white with a long, smooth tonal scale from bright highlights to deep shadows. It is less about gritty character and more about clarity and control, which makes it superb for landscape, architecture, still life and portraiture where you want a polished result.
Grain and sharpness
Grain is extremely fine and sharpness is excellent, so the film holds up to large scans and big enlargements beautifully. At ISO 100 in good light it produces some of the cleanest black-and-white negatives you can shoot.
Exposure and processing
As an ISO 100 film it prefers good light or a tripod, and its finer emulsion rewards accurate exposure and consistent development. Meter carefully to place your shadows, and keep your developing routine repeatable to get the smooth, detailed negatives it is capable of.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths: very fine grain, high sharpness, a smooth tonal range and refined rendering. Weaknesses: the slow speed limits low-light handheld use, and its clean modern look is less characterful than a classic-grain film for those who want obvious grain.
